Service Dog Vest by Ruff Wear

The first time I've heard of Service Dogs, it was thirteen years ago in 1997 and I just first arrived in the United States. I was on the train with my mother and I was amazed that this gentleman with visual impairment was accompanied by an adult Labrador dog wearing a harness and it seemed like the dog served as the man's vision guide, his compass. My mom was quick to school me that whenever I see a person with a dog wearing a harness and Service Dog Vest by Ruff Wear, I should give up space and allow them to move around comfortably whether it be on the streets or in public transportation such as train or bus. She explained that these animals are working and not with their masters to be as pets. That's why it is crucial to give them space so the service dog can look around and do his job. People are not suppose to distract these dogs, give food or pet them. Their job is to protect their masters and guide them around. They are trained to perform these tasks from their puppy hood until their full grown adult life. So the next time your dog won't fetch a frisbee, just chuckle and think of these hardworking dogs who help improve the quality of life of other individuals.
