Precautionary Measures for a Safe Home While on Vacation

Thanks to Oliver Sykes for writing this post.

Every summer vacation my family and I take a camping trip to the woods. There are several different forests to choose from here in Illinois, which keeps summer vacation a lot of fun. There are several precautionary measures we take in order to ensure our home before we leave on our camping trip. I want to make sure that when we are away, things are secure and taken care of so I can truly relax and not think about home. First, we ask a family friend to watch the house when we are done. They are in charge of watering our outdoor plants and getting the mail and newspapers daily. I make sure to change our answering machine to say that we will not be available for a week and will return any messages after a certain date.

Before we actually leave the house, I will check all the windows to make sure they are closed and secure. I set the adt fire and security in Illinois system and we're good to go. Once or twice during the vacation itself I will call my neighbor across the street to make sure everything at home is okay. I leave her with my number in case of any type of emergency that requires me to return home. These precautionary measures help me feel that my house is safe and secure while on vacation.
